Carrboro

Carrboro, a former mill town, is typically dubbed one of the most progressive cities in the South. It was the first municipality in North Carolina to elect an openly gay mayor (1995) andgrant domestic partner benefits to same-sex couples. The city is known for its farmer’s market where, since 1979, locally grown produce, prepared foods, cheese, honey, flowers, and crafts are sold by original producers to consumers. It has been lauded an “art town” with a thriving music and art scene showcased at the ArtCenter, Cat’s Cradle, Carrboro Music Festival, Carrboro Film Festival, and North Carolina Comedy Arts Festival.
